At All Saints, when we talk about the term 'inclusion' we are very much talking about an approach that enables all pupils to thrive.

To support this aspiration, we adopt a number of different strategies to achieve this.

Firstly, through quality first teaching and an 'Ordinarily Available' approach, all pupils have access to learning that will allow them to flourish. For example, some learners need the support of visual timetables or movement breaks to support their learning. However, all pupils benefit from these strategies and they are available for all pupils.

Secondly, some pupils need additional support beyond this. Therefore, a targeted offer of interventions is made both in the classroom and beyond. It could include group interventions made by teaching or support staff and could include pastoral support from our Family Liaison officer.

All classroom-based support staff work under the direction of the teacher to support the needs of the class as a whole. It is our hope that this will build independence for all pupils in class, including those that have additional needs.

For our pupils with the most complex needs, we have a number of strategies, including the formation of a 'Meerkats' class where a group of children, predominantly in KS1, will have a bespoke curriculum to meet their individual needs. This is an enabled environment supporting total communication strategies. Our hope is that through this approach we can reintegrate these pupils into the larger classes in school over time by building independence, communication, attention and concentration. However, we also recognise that for some of these pupils we will need to facilitate onwards pathways where this is not appropriate.

Led by a class teacher and a small team of support staff, Meerkats pupils have a sense of belonging as a class are able to access a curriculum that is more suited to their needs, but this strategy also supports all classes in being calm, purposeful learning environments.
